Wyrd and Wonder is a month-long event dedicated to fantasy in all its glory (books, shows, movies, games, podcasts,…) and it is hosted by imyril, Lisa and Jorie. You can found more about the event here.
This is the third edition of Wyrd and Wonder and my first time participating! I’m super excited for it, I cannot wait to read all of your wonderful posts and add even more books to my ever-growing TBR! 😀
For some reason, I’ve been neglecting fantasy a bit in the last couple years, so I think this event will be a good way for me to give a bit more love to this genre. My goal is to catch-up on some ARCs that I really need to read and review. I also want to read a couple of books that will be released later this year (and have head-start, for once in my life!).
Tentative TBR
David Mogo and In the Vanisher’s Palace are the long overdue ARCs that I was mentioning previously, I’m excited for both of them and they are currently at the top of my TBR. 🙂
In the Descent of Monsters is the third book in the Tensorate series, a series of novellas written by JY Yang. I read the first two in December and I am very much looking forward to the next story. If I have time, I might read the fourth one as well, The Ascent to Godhood.
Finally, Driftwood and Phoenix Extravagant are both coming out in the next few months. I don’t need to be read right away but the both sound amazing so, I want to read them as soon as possible. I received a copy of Driftwood unsolicited from the kind folks at Tachyon and it sounds fantastic. It was my first time receiving an ARC without any notice and it was a very nice surprise! I am also extremely excited for Phoenix Extravagant. Yoon Ha Lee is one of my favorite authors so, of course I cannot wait to read this book!!
Other options
I don’t even know if I’ll manage to read the five books mentioned above but, I’m a very greedy reader and I always want to read more things. Here are some other titles on my radar for May:
Reviews planned for Wyrd and Wonder
Of course, I would like to read and review the fantasy books that I will read for Wyrd and Wonder. However, I also plan on posting reviews of fantasy books that I read recently and that I didn’t have the time to review yet! 🙂
- The Monster Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson
- The Black Tides of Heaven by JY Yang
- The Red Threads of Fortune by JY Yang
- Miranda in Milan by Katharine Duckett
I’m looking forward to reading all of your posts, this month is going to be great! 😀
You have some good books planned! I really want to read The City We Became😁

Me too! It sounds great and since it’s Jemisin, it’s probably going to be a five stars read. 😀

Phoenix Extravagant sounds so good! And I kind of love that cover. I’m also planning on reading The Ten Thousand Doors of January.

The cover is absolutely gorgeous! 😀 I realized that on my TBR, 3 out of 5 books have dragons on the cover, I seem to have a type haha.
The Ten Thousand Doors sounds awesome, I’ve heard nothing but good things so, I hope we will both like it! 😀

I really enjoyed In the Vanishers’ Palace, such an interesting spin on Beauty and the Beast! I really need to make time for The City We Became at some point…

I started it yesterday and, so far, I’m very much enjoying it! 😀
I don’t know if I’ll get to it this month but since it’s a Jemisin book, it’s probably going to be brilliant!

Glad to see you joining in, you’ve got a GREAT TBR planned. I love Vanishers’ Palace so much, her writing is so beautifully gothic.

I’m in a big fantasy mood at the moment so I’m very excited for this month! 😀
De Bodard’s writing is excellent, I didn’t like The House of Shattered Wings but I read a couple of her short stories and I enjoyed them all! 🙂

House of Shattered Wings is one I need to reread because parts of it didn’t stick with me but it still had that gothic atmospheric writing to it. I love her shorter stuff!
