The Festive Christmas Book Tag πŸŽ…❄️

I was searching for a Christmas Book Tag and I stumbled upon this one on A Court of Coffee and Books and it looked like a lot of fun so… here we are! πŸ˜€

A fictional family you would like to spend Christmas dinner with?

I would love to spend Christmas with the Weasleys from Harry Potter. I’m sure that would entail a lot of amazing food, magic games and ugly sweaters and it sounds like loads of fun!

A bookish item you would like to receive as a gift?

Hum, books? πŸ˜€ I don’t tend to collect a lot of random bookish items since I don’t like clutter and I don’t even have a lot of free space for physical books. However, I can make an exception for a book I really want to read or, even better, a special edition of a book I love!

A fictional character you think would make a perfect Christmas elf?

BB8 would make the cutest elf. I know he’s a droid but just imagine BB8 with a cute little Christmas hat? Absolutely adorable!

Match a book to its perfect Christmas song.

All I want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey and the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. I personally think that both the song and the books are overhyped and they both managed to get on my nerves quickly…

I used to live near a shop that blasted All I want for Christmas is You nonstop during the holidays so now I can’t listen to it. As for the ACOTAR series, it’s not bad but it’s very overhyped and I’m sick of hearing about it all the time.

Bah humbug! A book or fictional character you’ve been disappointed in and should be put on the naughty list?

The palm of the worst character of the year goes to Harry from Temi Oh’s Do You Dream of Terra-two? He’s the worst, the absolute worst. I don’t usually want characters to die of horrible deaths but I wanted him to choke in space. What a little shithead.

A book or fictional character you think deserves more love and appreciation and deserves to be put on the nice list?

My first answer is Breq from the Imperial Radch trilogy. Reading Ancillary Sword, the second book in the trilogy, made me realize how much I love Breq. She’s always trying to do her best to protect everyone around her, she doesn’t have a second to spare for incompetent people and she’s very clever (and kind when humans are not being too annoying).

However, the fictional character who truly deserves all the love is Han Jipyeong for the Korean TV show Start-Up. In Start-Up, he’s screwed over by pretty much everyone in the show and I just want to give him a cup of tea, a warm blanket and a hug. The man deserves some love and appreciation for sure.

Red, green, and gold. A cover that has a wonderfully christmasy feel to it.

The book isn’t very Christmassy but for some reasons, I found it very comforting when I read it and the cover has green, red and gold so… It’s my pick!

A book or series you love so much, you want everyone to find under their Christmas tree this year so they can read it and love it too?

This Is How You Lose the Time War is one of my all-time favorite books. It follows two time-traveling agents working for different sides as they slowly yet inexorably fall in love by exchanging letters. It’s the best love story I have ever read, the writing is gorgeous, the epistolary format fits the story perfectly and the world is fascinating. I want everyone to read it and love it! πŸ˜€

  1. I’m so with you there when it comes to clutter. I mainly stopped buying physical books a long time ago just cos they took up so much space in my house and honestly I rarely picked most of them up again after reading them once. I do love the tactile experience of reading a physical book, but I’m a full ebook convert now.

    1. Yes, the reading experience is better with a physical book (though I can argue that I can’t change the font or the luminosity with a book) but I don’t see myself ever going back to physical books. I only buy copies of favorite books that I know I will want to re-read.
