Five 5 Star Predictions | Wyrd & Wonder Edition

We are already more than halfway through Wyrd & Wonder and I thought it would be fun to talk about fantasy books that I haven’t read but that I think I’m going to love. I don’t give out a lot of five star ratings so it’s always hard to predict which books have a high chance of becoming new favorites. Still, there are always a few books on my mind that I’m expecting to love, here are five of them :

  • The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin

Okay, this book is a bit of cheat because I read the prologue a few weeks ago and I loved it so much that I am pretty sure I’m going to love the book. However, I knew I was probably going to enjoy this book very much because I could read Jemisin’s grocery list at this point and still find it well-written. I have read all her novels and I liked them all so it’s a pretty fair bet to say that The City We Became is going to be a five star read.

  • The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow

Alix E. Harrow’s debut The Ten Thousand Doors of January was one of my favorite reads of 2020 so I’m expecting to love The Once and Future Witches. Also, it’s a historical fiction story about witches joining the Suffragette movement so… I’m pretty sure it’s going to be amazing!

  • By Force Alone by Lavie Tidhar

By Force Alone is Tidhar’s take on Arthurian legends and it sounds completely bonkers. I attented a Zoom booktalk about By Force Alone when it came out and hearing Lavie talking about this project was hilarious. He’s without a doubt one of my favorite authors – Unholy Land is a masterpiece, I also loved The Violent Century and Central Station – so I can’t wait to finally read By Force Alone.

  • Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

I don’t read a lot of YA stories because I usually struggle to connect with the characters but I am very intrigued by Legendborn. So far, I have only read and heard good things about it even from people who don’t usually enjoy YA so it’s a very good sign. Also, if the content of the book is as half as good as the gorgeous cover, it’s going to be an amazing book! 😉

  • Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse

To be honest, I purposely avoided reading a synopsis of this book because I want to go into it blindly so I know next to nothing about this book. However, my expectations are pretty high because, 1) everyone has been losing their minds about this book since it came out and, 2) it’s written by Rebecca Roanhorse. So yeah, I think I’m going to love this one!

It’s your turn to work now! Do you have any five star predictions? 😀

  1. Ooh, predictions! I am wondering how these books are faring with you. For Black Sun, the curious thing is that I read several *glowing* reviews, yet all of them left me guessing because — spoilers! It’s making me want to jump headlong into the book, but I’m going to wait till at least the 2nd book is out!

    1. I finished The City We Became yesterday and while it wasn’t quite a five star read, I still really, really liked it! 😀
I also usually don’t start series if there are only one book out but I am very intrigued about this one and since I have read several books by Roanhorse and enjoyed them all, I will probably make an exception for Balck Sun. 😉
