June Wrap-Up & July Reading Plans

June was a very good reading month compared to the last few months, I think mood reading really helped me to read more! Half the books I read in June were on my monthly TBR and the other half were books I was in the mood for at the time like The Haunting of Tram Car 015 or romance books like Shipped, The Worst Best Man and The Hating Game. I don’t read a lot of romance books but maybe I should because they are often a way for me to feel less slumpy! Generally, I think it’s a good idea for me to read books that are not SFF when I’m struggling with reading.

I’m glad I read The Silent Patient, while the book itself was pretty average, it made me want to read more thrillers. I always believed thrillers would be too spooky for me but apparently, I can actually read them without having nightmares!

Anyway, all this babble to say that June was a good reading month and I hope July will be the same! πŸ˜€

TV Shows

Can you believe that I haven’t watched a single K-drama in June?? I know, I can’t believe it either but I wasn’t really in the mood to watch anything other than reality shows!

First, I binged the 2nd season of Legendary after loving the first season in May and I have to say that the second season was even better! I also watched way too many seasons of The Real Housewives of New York and it was hilarious and full of petty drama (which is exactly why I watch the show lol).

In July, I would like to go back to some shows I was watching in May like Black Mirror and Haechi. Hopefully I will watch less trashy reality TV but I’m not going to make any promises! πŸ˜›

July Reading Plans

I have several books on my radar for July but I will probably do some mood reading as well so I don’t think I will read all the books listed below. However, I am definitely going to read A Man Lies Dreaming by Lavie Tidhar since I’m buddy-reading it with Mayri The Bookforager! I’m excited to read another book by Tidhar since he’s one of my favorite authors and I’m even more excited to discuss it with Mayri! πŸ˜€

Also, I would like to read one or two spooky stories and join Tammy from Books, Bones & Buffy Horror in July event. Horror in July is a way to celebrate horror books not during the usual spooky times (a.k.a October) but during summer. I usually reserve horror titles for Fall so I thought it would be nice to squeeze in this TBR one or two horror novellas that have been on my shelves for a while. I have been meaning to read Hammers on Bone by Cassandra Khaw and Agents of Dreamland by Caitlin R. Kiernan for years so I might actually manage to finally read them this month! πŸ˜‰

Here are the books on my reading radar in July:

How was your month of June? Any plans for July? πŸ˜€

  1. No K-dramas??!! Who ARE you?! Where’s Maryam?? πŸ˜€
So glad you had a good reading month in June, I hope July is just as good. And I’m really looking forward to our Tidhar buddy-read too – SQUEE!

  2. Horror in July?! Well, why not? πŸ˜€ No Korean dramas — it was the same for me as well. Mostly because none of the recent releases caught my eye. They are all either still airing or just disappointing at the end. Sell My Haunted House was a decent show, but around Episode 12, it changed a bit in tone and then it was no longer as cracktastic. But I’d still recommend it if you’re looking for a new show!

    1. I guess I just wasn’t in the mood for them in June but I just finished Haechi yesterday, it was a pretty good saeguk but a bit too long, I usually prefer 16 episodes drama, 24 was a bit much. Now I think I will watch Doom at Your Service and Hospital Playlist, have you seen any of them? πŸ™‚
I will probably give a try to Sell My Haunted House at some point but I’m not always a fan of Jang Nara, I think she sometimes has a tendency to overact like in The Last Empress.

      1. Haha, Last Empress was all kinds of crazy! Don’t worry, Jang Nara has a very different style in Haunated House. Worth a shot.
And I would NOT recommend Doom at Your Service at all — lofty goals but zero plot and terrible direction and very very slow. I felt the actors had been wasted, and they are some of my favorites. 😦 Hospital Playlist is one of those feel-good shows, not cracktastic but cozy enough. You could also give Vincenzo (Netflix) a shot, there are plotholes but pretty entertaining and great fight scenes!
